And perhaps my favorite, the 22mm distressed caramel brown (seen above). This kind of piece is something that I personally gravitate towards. I love preserving things like old rivet holes and stitching lines on these kinds of pieces. The wear on that leather was wild, it caught my eye in a vintage shop right away, such contrast! I also like taking bold moves like including the neon yellow stitch near the buckle. It's something that gets covered up when the watch is on, but it makes for a gutsy look when the strap is off. Also, I like matching black buckles with black dials, instead of always aiming for the case. It's less expected, and simply, more fun!
If you know anything about cars and Pagani, the Schofield Watch Company can be said to be the horological equivalent. Everything offered by the company is formed through the singular vision of one man, Gille Eilles, a British watch designer with an almost fanatical obsession to detail and keeping high standards. Here, we review not only the famous Schofield Signalman, but also their strap kit and watch wallet.
Whether buying for big money or on a budget, the same rules apply. Go for the best condition you can afford and remember that originality is key. The lower cost does mean a lower risk so the purchase should be much less angst-ridden. Don’t follow the herd, chasing the same few "grail" watches. Learn your history and have some fun with watches that can be both cheap and interesting. Which low-cost rarity would you like to own?
I am truly obsessed with vintage wristwatches. I lust after them, read about them, collect them, and wear them with pride. I think for the most part, many in the aforementioned groups respect them as well. Whether your taste runs to steel diving watches or a diamond studded grand complications, they represent the origins of all that we love.
Prices for the US market will be ,400 for the most basic version (L2.7220.127.116.11), ,100 for the GMT L2.718.104.22.168 and ,500 for the chronograph model (L2.722.214.171.124). We will have to see one of these in the metal to judge how well they wear - especially with the extended crown. Considering the prices, I feel that any of these three new models could be a viable alternative for those in search of a pilots watch with proper vintage flair, a rather relevant and unique design feature and a relatively reasonable price tag. longines.com
I like that Ulysse Nardin retained the magnifier lens over the date window. These are less and less common these days but I still like them in many instances. The Marine Chronometer Manufacture watches will have at least three strap options with cases in both 18k rose gold as well as titanium mixed with rose gold. There is also a titanium cased model with a steel bezel. Strap options include the iconic Ulysse Nardin rubber dive-style straps with the metal links, as well as alligator straps and full gold or titanium and steel bracelets. While the prices for the all gold limited edition model is as high (given the material) as ,800, the standard Ulysse Nardin Marine Manufacture watches range from ,400 - ,800 which isn't too bad.
The Angelus, like other Daniel Strom watches are intended to be highly customizable. The brand doesn't even list the size of the case (which just pisses me off). That is like issuing a release on a new car and not including the horsepower rating. That is a necessary product stat, and I feel that not mentioning the size of the case is simply irresponsible to not include in official information about the watch. Anyhow, the men and women of the world interested in these timepieces will have almost full carte blanche to do wild things like have their cats and dogs engraved with angel wings on the case. Well, that might be exaggerating, but it is probably not too far from the truth. Especially if we are talking about one of these watches in platinum. Oh yes, the platinum Angelus is a must have lifestyle accessory for the stylish high-end pious watch nut.
My overall verdict? An elegant timepiece – for a more civilized age. alange-soehne.com
At a ritzy BMW dealership here in Tampa, Ball watches threw a little get-together complete with the Ball brass from Switzerland. The irony is that you really won't be able to purchase Ball watches from any BMW dealership. You'll have to travel over to a Ball watch retailer for that. I didn't quite understand that part as it would appear to make a lot of sense to have the watches actually in dealerships for people to check out while haggling for their new M3. Perhaps that will come in the future.
In what I think is a first for Sinn, it's sold with a matching blue and white NATO strap.
