And also of the Jaeger-LeCoultre Master Grande Ultra Thin:
The dials themselves are very well-done for what RJ is going for. Romain Jerome was able to create a three-dimensional display that looks as though it was built out of pixel layers. The characters/sprites on the dial are colored with a special lacquer. Nothing feels flat, and given what Romain Jerome wanted to do with the dial and the Space Invaders' theme, I think they did a good job. Reading the time via the hands is fine, but there are no discernible hour markers to help out.
Aesthetically, the white is very pleasing in the flesh, very bright with red accents highlighting certain parts of the semi-openworked dial. The dial layout itself is probably a bit more legible than the previous 'regular' edition of the same watch due to the colour. It is a very summertime watch, and at this time of year would look great with a nice polo shirt, with a linen get-up while relaxing on the deck of your yacht in St Tropez, or hanging out the side of your Bugatti Veyron as you prowl around Monaco. Of course the watch is made to be loud and proud, and that is what the brand is about, so better to embrace it! A casually styled high horology watch is not something that has been the norm up until recently, and minute repeaters in large sports watch cases are even rarer.Read more ›
When designing this i-Gucci watch I have a feeling I know what Gucci was aiming for. The goal was probably to produce a Casio that hip urban fashion types want to wear... Those that for whatever reason don't want to wear a Casio. Compared to your standard G-Shock, the i-Gucci is more sleek, has a metal case, more simple dial, and looks less like a piece of modern Japanese technology. A G-Shock is probably more durable in the long term, but it won't get you as many "brand points" with people. In the end, the i-Gucci is meant to be a useful, fashionable, and recognizable high-end digital watch. There really aren't too many other watches quite like it out there.Read more ›

My own YouTube channel (aBlogtoRead), is a YouTube partner and has well over 300 videos most all related to timepieces. I was recently watching one of my own recent videos and was extremely surprised (and of course happy) to see a Rolex pre-roll ad with an adjacent supporting banner ad. The enjoyable sight was surprising given what I know about Rolex's highly conservative marketing policies. There was a full-length commercial celebrating Rolex's relationship with Wimbledon. I actually saw the same video recently uploaded to Rolex's own official YouTube channel that was formed a few months ago (also to my surprise).

Design-wise these are modest departures from the standard classic and sporty Ball watch fare that we tend to like. I personally am a fan of many, but not all Ball watches. The good news is that each year Ball releases enough new pieces such that there is something fresh and appealing for everyone. The Ball BMW watches are original, but have designs that closely look like a combination of modern IWC Ingenieur pieces and sporty Jaeger-LeCoultre sport watches like the Master Compressor and AMVOX collection. This isn't really an accident given that the pieces are supposed to be sporty, automotive-themed, and of course modern. There is nothing retro about the majority of BMW car designs. Plus, we hear that some of the same designers that worked on those Jaeger-LeCoultre watches worked on the Ball BMW watches.
Some specifications are in order. The movement is the Orient 40P51, beating at 21,600vph and a power reserve of about 42 hours. Hackable, handwinding, quick-set date, independent GMT hand. Total weight is 135g with all links.Read more ›
Part of Bremont's product strategy includes producing special military-only editions of their watches, the ALT1-WT was originally seen dressed-for-duty as the C-17 Globemaster. Public response to the Globemaster was enough to warrant Bremont producing the civilian version featured in this review. The ALT1-WT takes its place in the Bremont family among fan favorites like the ALT1-C and ALT1-P military inspired chronographs. Personally, I feel the watch world has been thoroughly inundated with marketing fluff concerning watches which have been designed for military, or designed with help from various military groups. Provided that the watch in question is a good watch, I don't actually care if it is the same watch worn by the Navy Seals, GSG 9 or even the Girl Guides. That said, Bremont is able to use strong connections with many military outfits to test their watches, vet new technologies, or soft-launch new designs. From the ejection-seat-ready shock system of the MBII to the gauge-like design of the U2, I believe that Bremont's genuine passion for military, especially for pilots and aircraft, makes for a better final product.
Hidden under the black rubber skin is 120 LEDs. The primary array of 100 white LEDs displays alphanumeric information while an offset strip of 20 colored LEDs track your activity progress along a beveled edge. A single oval button flanks the display and is the only means to access different features of the FuelBand without plugging it into a computer or syncing it with a smartphone. This button is the sole blemish on the otherwise beautifully minimalistic facade. It is slightly raised and further accentuated by its cutout surround. I would much rather Nike had either blended it into the design more or made it stand out in an aesthetically pleasing manner. As it sits now, the button would look closer to a manufacturing defect than a design choice if it were not so symmetrical. A spring-loaded stainless steel clasp holds the FuelBand securely closed while also sheathing the built-in USB plug. Nike claims the FuelBand is water resistant and is "safe to wear in the shower or when dancing in the rain". I'll admit to testing the first claim but a situation to test the latter has yet to present itself.Read more ›
Watch enthusiasts may share common traits but come from all walks of life. We find that diversity to be amazing and part of why we all love different things. Some of you are die-hard tool watch lovers, and others might get weak at the knees for watches with diamonds. Just over four years ago I wrote an article about six professional job categories that tend to be watch lovers. I wonder if that assumptions still holds true for the current readership of aBlogtoRead.com.
The watch itself will come in a 42mm wide steel case. Attractive, the design is rather low-key with vintage style plunger pushers. The split second pusher is on the left side of the case. The case is water resistant to 50 meters and has a sapphire crystal. According to Habring², the case has the watch serial number engraved on the case between the lugs.
This one's for you Matt... aBlogtoRead.com readers know that I don't spend a lot of blog space explaining which watch actors and athletes are currently paid to endorse. I will however discuss watches on the wrists of people I respect and that have good enough taste to choose something nice. WordPress and Automattic founder Matt Mullenweg is also a watch lover. Like many San Francisco and Silicon Valley horophiles, Matt is a bit more private about his fascination with watches. He told me once that it started with a Panerai he saw in a store window. Nevertheless, these important captains of industry and genius engineers are one of the largest and most important watch loving demographics in the US. These guys buy watches because they appreciate the mechanics and craftsmanship, not because they saw them in a fashion magazine.Read more ›

These two watches are interesting limited edition Royal Oak watches done in honor of the 40th Anniversary of the Royal Oak collection. While not the only limited edition models for 2012, these are the two skeletonized versions and each come in platinum cases - a bit ironic to celebrate the famous high-end steel watch.

The C900 features a 43mm case with a thickness of 15.7 mm so the size should suit nearly any wrist. Inside, the JJ02 hand wound calibre features traditional timekeeping with a sub-dial devoted to a 30 minute measure for the chronograph, and one to display the running seconds. The dial design is a mix of thin baton markers, roman numerals at six and twelve, and lovely needle-point hands. The effect is luxurious yet muted and can be matched with either a black or brown leather strap.Read more ›
